Planets unfolds as a study of color first, with blueberries serving as vessels for an unusually wide spectrum. Cool blues and violets dominate, but they are constantly interrupted by pale whites, soft pinks, mossy greens, and flashes of warm orange at the berries’ centers.
Rather than staying within a single tone, each form carries multiple colors at once—edges cool and receding, interiors warmer and luminous. These shifts give the surface movement, as if color itself is ripening and recombining across the composition.
By stretching the blueberry far beyond its expected palette, the painting reminds us that what appears uniform at a glance often contains an entire range of subtle, surprising hues, revealed only through careful observation.
