Orchid 29
Orchid 29
18x24"
Watercolor, Charcoal
Orchid 29 has condensed itself into a single, deliberate gesture. The stem is impossibly thin, a taut vertical line that lifts the blossoms. At the top, the petals bunch together in purples and blues that feel dark and luminous, as if color has pooled at the spot of an unseen contusion.
The leaves at the base curl outward and upward; fine roots twitch beneath them, barely anchoring the plant to the page, emphasizing how provisional this act of growth feels. The dark Charcoal both stabilizes and constrains the form, holding it together while reminding us how fragile it is.
Rather than depicting abundance, the work focuses on precision: one stalk, a handful of blossoms—beauty pared down to the minimum required to exist.
